Ilford and Clapton will go head-to-head in the Essex Senior League in midweek, having both celebrated wins at the weekend.

Allan Fenn’s Foxes got back to winning ways, following recent losses at St Margaretsbury and Stansted, with a comfortable 2-0 success over league new boys West Essex at Cricklefield Stadium.

Centre-back Paul Clayton, sent off at Stansted in midweek, put the home side ahead midway through the first half and doubled their advantage on 32 minutes.

Fenn made a double substitution on the hour, replacing Chris Stevens and Leon Rolle with Ryan Ramsay and Luke McLeavy.

And Wale Odedoyin, who missed a penalty at Stansted on his return to the club from Tilbury, made way for Carl Mullings with 13 minutes remaining, but the hosts could not add to their tally and had to settle for the two-goal margin of victory.

Ilford: Clark, Clayton, Lane, Matthews, Mtyanda, Nkosi, Odedoyin (Mullings 77), Rolle (McLeavy 60), Stevens (Ramsay 60), Thomas, Whipps. Unused subs: Paliulis, Brons-Smith.

Takeley 0 Clapton 1

Clapton ended their four-match winless run to move up to ninth thanks to Stefan Nielsen’s 15th-minute goal.

Nielsen tucked the ball home from close range to claim his first goal for the club and give Jon Fowell’s men their first victory since beating Wadham Lodge on October 5, as Takeley suffered their fifth defeat in the month.

Nielsen tweeted: “Buzzing to get the 3 points and score my first goal for @ClaptonFootball, first of many more to come.”

Clapton: Robins, Cook, Domingo-Carrington (Ashman), Ebengo, Haighton, Jaffa, Jairette, Joseph, Nielsen (Blackwood), Rene (Coe), Vigo.
