Ilford assistant manager Billy Cove believes they fully deserved to beat Sawbridgeworth Town.

The Foxes picked up a comfortable 3-1 victory against Town thanks to goals from debutants Aaron Wickhams and Glody Nsayiu and another from Jamie Hart at Cricklefield Stadium on Saturday.

“Saturday was all about attitude,” Cove admitted.

“My team talk was based around Team work, trust and enthusiasm.

“We were forced into some changes and we also brought some new blood in and tried a new formation, which made us a bit harder to break down.

“The boys played as if they’d been playing together for years, the football we played was a joy to watch at times, and we thoroughly deserved the three points.”

Cove has been in charge for the last week and admits it has been a stressful time.

“A week is a long time in football, and I’m sure I’ve gained a few more grey hairs,” he said.

“Thank god the Gaffa is back for Wednesday.”

Ilford now make the trip to face FC Romania on Wednesday evening.
