Ryman Division 1N: Harlow 8 Barkingside 3
Barkingside boss Matt Frew is still coming to terms with his side’s heavy defeat at Ryman Division One North rivals Harlow last night.
Side travelled to Barrows Farm in good spirits, after Aaron Scott’s injury-time winner against Cheshunt at the weekend, but Michael Akande headed the hosts in front after only nine minutes.
Paul Kavanagh levelled from the penalty spot soon after but Shaun Stamp and Alex Read netted three minutes apart to put Harlow 3-1 up at the break and Junior Dadson added a fourth soon after the restart.
Mark Doyle replied after good work from man of the match Matt Gulfer, only for Dadson, Read and Robbie Martin to score in a six-minute blitz to make it 7-2.
Andy Edmunds grabbed Side’s third with two minutes left, but Harlow had the final say as Chinedu McKenzie volleyed home number eight.
Frew said: “It’s the heaviest defeat I’ve had as a manager but the result was quite flattering for them.
“They were stages when we were in it. We hit the post when it was 1-1 and had a good spell at 4-2 down when we put a glorious chance wide.
“But Harlow have got a huge budget and the place was rocking.
“The atmosphere was great, but I think the occasion was a bit big for some of the boys and overwhelmed them.”
Barkingside: Mulrooney, Doyle, Kavanagh, Tiffin, Suchley, Scott, Edmunds, Callaway, Cosson, Gulfer, Senghore. Subs: King, Crossley, Onireti, Salmon, Clark.
