Barkingside progressed into the second round of the Gordon Brastead Memorial Trophy after a penalty shoot-out victory against Woodford Town.

Side nicked a late equaliser thanks to Euan Taylor-Reid to take it to penalties after an early goal from the hosts Samir Ali at the Harlow Arena last night.

Ali got Woodford off to a dream start as he slotted home a penalty early on but their luck came to an end when Jack Grovesnor was sent off.

Late on came a special moment as Michael Walther’s side finally scored a goal in the 2018/19 season at the sixth time of asking when Taylor-Reid converted from close range to level the score.

It meant the game went to penalties and the visitors won the shoot-out 5-4 to progress.

Elsewhere, neighbours Ilford also progress through as Callum Maltese netted a hat-trick at Cricklefield as they edged out West Essex in their match.

Maltese put the hosts ahead with a lovely left footed finish before Emmanuel Obeng-Kouassi looped over Rossetti to level for the visitors.

Maltese then slotted home to restore the hosts lead but Joe Lefley levelled for the visitors right on half time, however with eight minutes remaining Maltese completed his treble with a superb free-kick to win the game for the home side.
