‘Side hoping to get the better of Abbey

Barkingside boss Matt Frew believes Waltham Abbey’s recent run of results counts for nothing when the two sides meet on Saturday (March 7).

The Cricklefield Stadium will welcome an Abbey team that has won just twice in the league since November 22.

But Frew is still aware that they can pose a threat to ‘Side.

“Waltham Abbey’s form could turn on Saturday. If it doesn’t, good,” said Frew.

“We were in a position ourselves where we went without a win for a couple of months. You start wondering where the next win will come from.

“But when you do win, you get all that confidence that comes with it. You kick on and people start believing. Abbey are low on confidence but we still need to turn up.”

The two sides have already clashed twice this season in the FA Cup and the league with Abbey winning on both occassions.

Past results against Saturday’s visitors have made Frew even more cautious ahead of the match.

“Anyone can beat anyone and that’s the way we’ve got to look at it. We need to work harder than them and if we do that we’ll get the result,” added Frew.

“They’ve got good individual players so it won’t be easy. We have to make the most of home advantage.”
