Foxes have scored nine goals in their last three games, but were left disappointed last weekend
Ilford moved back up to fifth in the Essex Senior League on Tuesday and manager Allan Fenn has told his players to ensure they finish there at the end of the season.
The Foxes have endured mixed emotions of late as they defeated title challengers Bowers & Pitsea 2-0 last Wednesday, but followed that up with a disappointing 2-0 loss at home to Takeley.
Fenn’s men thrashed Newham 7-1 on Tuesday at Chadfields and they travel to Sporting Bengal United on Saturday and visit Greenhouse Sports on Monday, with the boss keen for them to finish the campaign in good form.
“Our objective at the start of the season was to be competitive and finish in the top five,” said the Ilford manager.
“We have definitely been competitive this year and we are fifth with four games to go, so we want to stay there now.
“It would be a really good achievement if we could manage that and one of the club’s highest finishes for a long while.
“We are under no illusions about how difficult these next two games will be. Regardless of how we have got on against them before, it is all about how we perform on the day.”
Ilford only played Greenhouse at home on March 26 and it finished 2-2 after Wale Odedoyin was sent off in the first half.
When Sporting Bengal visited Cricklefield on November 28, they left with a point following a thrilling 3-3 draw.
After failing to beat both of those sides previously, the Foxes boss is keen for his team to put that right over the next week.
Ilford scored seven times in the opening 45 minutes against Newham and want another fast start at the weekend, with Fenn adding: “We want to bring the first-half performance from Tuesday into Saturday’s match.
“We have a point to prove against Sporting Bengal after drawing with them earlier in the season so hopefully we do that.
“And then we go to Greenhouse on Monday and again we’ll be looking to get a positive result.”
It has been a frustrating week in many ways for Fenn as he was beaming with pride when Glen Warwick and Odedoyin scored to beat Bowers last Wednesday.
But a home reverse to Takeley left them unhappy, before they responded brilliantly on Tuesday.
Odedoyin grabbed a hat-trick and Ryan Barker-Francis hit a brace, while Warwick and Ashley Skeggs were also on target in the first half as Ilford eventually registered a stunning 7-1 win.
Fenn added: “We were seven up at the break against Newham, but then lost the second period one nil. It is up to me as the manager to make sure we get that consistency.
“The players know the problem and we are fully aware we need to raise our game against the ‘lesser teams’. It had been a horrible week really after having the high of beating Bowers to then losing against Takeley.
“Obviously it is great to get the win over Newham, but we could have won 7-2 on Saturday. That is the way it goes. On Tuesday we took our chances, but last weekend we didn’t.”
