Boss draws positives from Wadham Lodge clash

Ilford manager Allan Fenn praised his team’s fighting spirit but felt they could have got more out of their 2-2 home draw against Wadham Lodge last night.

The Foxes took the lead early in the first half through Karolis Atutis, from a Chris Lockwood free-kick.

But the visitors equalised through Charlie Georgiou and then took the lead after the restart as Reece Cosson beat Chris Clark.

New signing Anthony Da Silva performed the heroics for Ilford, scoring with only two minutes left to salvage a point.

And manager Fenn was pleased with his side’s determination to get the draw, saying: “It was a good battling performance, defensively we weren’t at our best and we conceded two cheap goals.

“We hit the post twice as well as hitting the bar on one occasion, but the boys dug in deep and showed their characters to snatch a draw.”

Next up for Ilford is a home meeting with FC Romania at Cricklefield Stadium on Saturday.

Fenn will know his side must improve on last night’s performance against a side who thrashed Tower Hamlets 7-1 in their last outing.

He added: “They are a very good side who will be very confident after the victory against Tower Hamlets.

“I feel they were the best team we played against last season, they have a lot of pace in their side and are solid defensively.

“But we are in a good place at the moment and playing well so it is going to be a entertaining game this weekend.”
