Foxes manager thrilled to see team show strength in Stansted success

Ilford boss Allan Fenn was pleased to see his team put in a more physical display in the second half of their 5-2 win at Stansted in the Essex Senior League.

After a goalless first half, the Foxes utilised their strength with the goals coming from Ajay Ashnike (2), Elias Armah-Tackie, Glen Warwick and Danny Jones.

The win helped Ilford clamber up to third in the standings and Fenn was happy to see improvements following a close opening 45 minutes.

“It was a scrappy first half between two enthusiastic teams who were lacking a bit of composure,” said Fenn.

“I told the boys to be more physical in the second half and they showed their strength. They pressed a lot more and were better om the ball.”

The win also made it five straight wins in all competitions for the Foxes ahead of their FA Vase tie with Kempston Rovers on Saturday.

Fenn is delighted with the club’s recent form but knows his team can still get better as they chase success on more than one front.

“As a manager, I take it in blocks of five and we have won our last five games,” added Fenn.

“Of course I always look at things, want us to play better, want us to concede less and want us to create more chances, but we’re a confident team.

“We’re in a good place at the minute and credit must go to the players who have come into the side because of injury. They’ve given me a few decisions now.”
