Essex Senior League: Ilford 1 Redbridge 3

Redbridge claimed revenge for an earlier derby defeat against Ilford, winning their Essex Senior League match 3-1 at Cricklefields Stadium.

The Motormen had lost 4-3 to the Foxes in their previous league meeting last month in a thrilling encounter, but had the edge this time around.

Despite the final score, it was the hosts who took the lead within a quarter of an hour as Ryan Ramsay finished calmly having been played in to put Allan Fenn’s men ahead.

However, the Oakside Stadium club hit back with around 30 minutes gone in the match as Aron Gordon found his way in from the byline before tapping home to level.

On the stroke of half-time, Redbridge almost took the lead when Reside Coxi-Sebastfao forced a good save from Ilford stopper Chris Clark.

The Foxes keeper was in action shortly after the break as the Motormen continued to look like a side in-form despite having only won two of their past six in all competitions.

There was a moment of controversy soon after as a free-kick from Mtyanda was flicked towards the visitors’ goal, and though keeper Jake Mernaga saved, the hosts protested the ball had crossed the line.

Redbridge, however, did take the lead with around 20 minutes left when Coxi-Sebastfao netted following good work from Jay Knight.

In the closing minutes, Ilford appeared to have been handed a lifeline when awarded a penalty, but Mernaga denied Mtyanda from 12 yards.

It proved a costly miss as the Motormen added a third in stoppage time to seal the win as substitute Jacob Dingli netted from 25 yards.

Redbridge have now won their last two in the league, but promotion hopefuls Ilford suffered another blow.
