Sipho Mtyanda continued his impressive February form with late winner at Cricklefield Stadium in front of 36 people

Sipho Mtyanda continued his fine February form for Ilford by netting the winner against Enfield in the second round of the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy last night.

The Foxes came into the contest off the back of a 2-0 win at Eton Manor and expected to progress.

But the north Londoners had shocked Ilford at Cricklefields back on December 3, so Allan Fenn was wary of another tough game.

It proved to be the case with the first half ending goalless, although both teams received a number of cards.

The second period was similar with neither side able to make the breakthrough and the tie appearing to head for a penalty shoot-out.

But Mtyanda had other ideas and grabbed his seventh goal of the month late on to send the Foxes through.

It keeps Ilford in the hunt for a trophy this season and they’ll visit Takeley in the last eight of the competition.

Next up for the Foxes is a trip to Mayesbrook Park to take on new boys West Essex on Saturday.

Fenn’s team will look to earn a fourth consecutive victory and continue their good recent form in the division.
