Essex Senior Cup third round: Witham Town 2 Ilford 0

Ilford were knocked out of the Essex Senior Cup third round following a 2-0 defeat away to Ryman North outfit Witham Town.

The Foxes travelled to Spa Road hoping to cause a cup upset despite a division splitting the sides.

But their dreams were dashed inside 32 minutes as the Town took the lead through Ryan Charles, an advantage they would maintain heading into the break.

And with eight minutes left in the second period, Allan Fenn’s men conceded a second as Tim Monsheju scored for the hosts to all but end the tie as a contest.

It was a disappointing result for Ilford who had won 3-2 at the weekend away to Sporting Bengal United in the Essex Senior League.

But Fenn will now have to regroup his troops swiftly as they prepare to welcome Waltham Forest in the league on Saturday.

Ilford: Clark, Valionis, Paulius, Matthews, Adeyemi, McLeavy, Thomas, Nkosi, Mullings, Solarin, Ramsey.

Subs: Mtyanda, Rolle, Kane, Armah-Tackie, Barker-Francis
