Foxes have not played since defeat at Hackney Wick on April 7

Ilford return to Essex Senior League action at home to Wadham Lodge tonight, and joint-manager Billy Cove admits it has been tough having a lengthy break at this stage of the season.

The Foxes have not played competitively since going down 2-1 at Hackney Wick on April 7.

The Cricklefield Stadium club will hope there are no signs of ring rust against Lodge and Cove is looking forward to seeing Ilford back playing.

“It’s been tough, but every team in the league has had the same difficulties due to the weather and we are just looking forward to getting out on to the pitch again,” he said.

Ilford will hope they can end a run of four straight defeats in the league when they host Lodge tonight.

The Foxes’ most recent defeat against Hackney would have particularly hurt, with the Wickers currently bottom of the standings.

And Cove is keen for the Cricklefield Stadium side to move on from that disappointment with a victory tonight.

“We need to put the Hackney result behind us now and move on,” added the joint-boss.

“We haven’t been playing well enough lately, so we need to fix that fast and try to get some more points on the board.”
