Side boss content with point, even after being two goals up
Barkingside manager Gursel Gulfer says a draw was a fair result a Takeley — despite seeing his team throw away a two-goal lead in the Essex Senior League clash.
Side had gone ahead thanks to a Charlie Portway brace, but Takeley clawed their way back to parity with two goals from Jason Todd.
And though frustrated that his side coughed up another good position to win, Gulfer believes the two teams were evenly matched at Station Road.
“Takeley are a good side, they have a lovely set-up at their ground and they started really well, but we weathered the storm.
“I said to the players at half-time that Takeley wouldn’t be able to sustain their effort and so it proved as we got a couple of goals early in the first half.
“We were doing well, but then they pumped a ball into the box which our keeper called for and misjudged for their first and their second was a great volley.
“Charlie missed an open goal towards the end, but the draw was probably fair.”
There was also a first league appearance for Lithuanian defender Augustas Ruzgas, who Gulfer believes will prove to be good acquisition for Barkingside.
“Augustas is a good player who was offered to us by Dagenham & Redbridge after he had a short trial there,” added the Side boss.
“He’s another player who is in need of game time and we are happy to provide him with that.”
