Barkingside enjoyed the Friday night lights at Cricklefield as they romped to a 5-2 success at home to title hopefuls Clapton.

When the sides last met in November, it was Side who triumphed 1-0 thanks to a David Laird goal.

And it was Laird who got the party started this time too, netting the opener in the 32nd minute.

Tons, however, hit back 10 minutes later through Jay Knight as the teams went into half time level at 1-1.

Jon Fowell’s men then took the lead 12 minutes into the second half as Knight added a second, but Barkingside’s response to going behind was certainly emphatic.

First, George Ademilyu restored parity five minutes later to give Gursel Gulfer’s team hope of a stunning victory.

With 14 minutes remaining, Side hit the front again when the ever-reliable Luke With found the net.

In the 80th minute, Laird doubled up as he struck to open a two-goal cushion for the Cricklefield club over Tons.

And the win was sealed in the final minute with former Dagenham & Redbridge youngster Kai Heather on target.

It was a mighty success from Side, who showed exactly what they can do when they are on it, and will hope for more home success when they host Sporting Bengal United on Monday.

As for Clapton, they know any response must be swift as they look to remain in the title race, and host Sawbridgeworth Town on Tuesday.
