The draws for the first and second rounds of the Essex Senior Cup were made on Wednesday night

Redbridge will host Essex Senior League rivals Basildon United in the first round of this year’s Essex Senior Cup.

The draws for the first and second rounds of the county competition were made live on radio station BBC Essex on Wednesday night.

Should the Motormen progress past Basildon, they will entertain Stanway Rovers of the Eastern Counties Premier Division in the second round.

Ilford, meanwhile, have been drawn at home to tenants Barkingside in the second round after both teams were handed byes in the first round.

During the live broadcast of the draws, it was confirmed the final of this year’s competition would take place at the Colchester Community Stadium, the home of League Two side Colchester United.

Chelmsford City are the defending champions, having beaten fellow National League South side East Thurrock United 1-0 in last season’s final.

Essex Senior Cup, first round draw (selected ties): Redbridge v Basildon United.

Second round draw, selected ties: Redbridge or Basildon United v Stanway Rovers; Ilford v Barkingside.

* Teams at level eight and above have received byes to the third round.
