Rafis heroics gives Redbridge second chance on Tuesday week.
Matt Turpin’s last minute disallowed header for Redbridge means this tie goes to a replay on Tuesday week, and a possible tie away at League Two side Crawley Town.
In truth Oxford dominated throughout the match with Declan Benjamin crashing a long-range effort against the post in the opening half, while Ryan Murray shot over for the hosts and Ben Bradbury headed wide.
But it was the performance of goalkeeper Adam Rafis, who has a famous uncle in the shape of former Arsenal defender Tony Adams, who kept the Motormen in the tie with a series of fine saves in the second half.
Firstly he denied Steve Basham with a header low down to his right, before he was able to come out and block Felipe Barcelos after Jamie Haywood had missed a header to allow the speedy striker a chance on goal.
Oxford brought on former Leyton Orient striker Lee Steele and the experience frontman had plenty of chance in his half hour on the pitch.
He fired wide after 65 minutes, before Rafis was on hand to deny Benjamin superbly with an almost certain goal thwarted as the Oxford midfielder arrived late in the area.
It was the latter who turned provider for Steele with his ball into the box inch perfect for Steele but Rafis was able to race across his goal-line and save.
But then as the tie appeared to be heading for a replay, the hosts won a corner in the fourth and final minute of time added on and defender Matt Turpin rose highest to thump home what appeared to be the winner, but referee Tim Robinson ruled the effort out for a supposed foul on Oxford keeper Keith McCloughlin.
