A draw at big-spending Needham Market felt like a win for Barkingside, according to their boss Matt Frew.

Things don’t get any easier for Frew’s side as they welcome league leaders VCD Athletic to Oakside on Saturday, fresh from their first defeat of the season at the weekend.

They are looking to build on four points from two away games, results which have left them 17th in the table.

Frew said: “I’m sure VCD will be looking to get back on track after losing. There are no easy games in this league and we’re not scared of anyone.

“They’ve got to come to our place, and the pitch isn’t the best so that could work to our advantage.”

The manager added that his players are getting to grips with the quality and pace of the league following last season’s promotion.

“They’re coming in to do extra training and we’re getting better with every game,” said Frew.

“There are no easy games in this league. We have to keep taking points off the teams around us and anything else will be a bonus, stating on Saturday.”
