Vanarama National League: Sutton United 1 (Cadogan 56) Dagenham & Redbridge 0

Dagenham & Redbridge’s recent mini-revival in the Vanarama National League has come to an end after a 1-0 defeat at Sutton United.

After securing a vital success at Dover Athletic on Tuesday night, Daggers boss Peter Taylor opted to name an unchanged XI.

Conor Wilkinson, who joined on loan from Sky Bet League One side Gillingham on Thursday, was left out of the matchday squad altogether.

Sutton enjoyed most of the play in the first half, with Jonah Ayunga twice testing Daggers custodian Elliot Justham.

Tom Bolarinwa also twice went closing for the U’s in the opening 45 minutes, but was another unable to find a way past Justham early on.

Chances for Daggers were at a premium, though Emmanuel Onariase did find room for a header from a corner, but could not score.

After a scrappy opening to the second half, United took the lead in the 56th minute when Kieron Cadogan scored on the rebound after Justham initially palmed away Nicky Bailey’s long-range effort.

Craig Eastmond tried his arm at producing a second for the Gander Green Lane club, but his shot from distance some six minutes later was easy for Justham.

The Daggers stopper continued to be tested by Sutton in the remaining moments, but did not add to their lead.

The Essex club, meanwhile, never truly came close to mustering an equaliser in south London.

Taylor’s men are now without a game until November 17 when they play host to Fylde.

Sutton: Butler, Bennett, Thomas, Clough (Beckwith 69), Collins, Bolarinwa (Brown 74), Ayunga (Wishart 90+3), Cadogan, Eastmond, Bailey, Drinnan.

Subs: Beautyman, Taylor.

Daggers: Justham, Nunn, Robinson, Pennell, McQueen, Balanta, Goodliffe (Donovan 83), Phipps, Adeloye (Mullings 64), Munns (Reynolds 64), Onariase.

Subs: Moore (GK), Hoyte.
