Hartlepool's director of football Craig Hignett said his side were punished for switching off late on in their 2-1 defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge
Hignett took temporary charge after Matthew Bates’ departure but couldn’t end their recent run of National League defeats.
Liam Noble slotted home a penalty inside 15 minutes to put Pools in the driving seat – only to concede in the 90th minute and in injury time to make it seven league losses in a row.
“For 88 minutes I thought we were fantastic,” Hignett told Pools PlayerHD.
“It was everything the fans want to see and everything we want to see. We had chances, we hit the post, we had penalty shouts and I think the game should have been dead and buried.
“Unfortunately we haven’t carried that on for the 95 minutes we needed to and we’ve conceded a couple of sloppy goals – and that’s been the story of what’s been happening.”
