Cup Hero Cosson doubted he would start
Reece Cosson was man of the match on Friday night, as Barkingside destroyed Bowers & Pitsea 9-1 in the Essex Senior League Cup final, but he admitted afterwards that he wasn’t convinced he would start.
It was a good job he did, as he scored four times in the rout and also played a hand in Side’s 6th goal, a strike he admitted, he will happily claim if it is accredited to him.
Cosson said: “It was a great game. I was panicking before the game on whether I was going to start or not.
“When I got the 1st goal I was over the moon and then they just kept on coming.
“The 5th goal is debatable, I am happy with four but if people want to credit me with the 5th I won’t say no.”
His four goals ensured he finished as Barkingside’s top goalscorer for the 2012/13 season. He finished with 16 goals for the year, one ahead of Joe Ellul and he was pleased to win the accolade.
He added: “It has been a great season.
“I had six weeks off at the beginning of this year and played right back a few times.
“To finish as top goalscorer, I am very happy, although it was tight between me, Joe Ellul and Richard Oxby.
Barkingside victory at Rush Green Stadium was the perfect end to a physically tough season.
Side have been played several matches per week and Cosson was pleased to finish it as cup winners, and he praised the squad.
He said: “It’s been a long, hard season.
“The effort we have put in, we have been playing four games in a week the last few weeks so to finish 2nd and be cup winners is great for the boys.”
