Mighty Chigwell School under-11s swept all before them to claim their regional football crown and book their place at the Independent Schools national finals.

Twelve teams from across the region took part in the tournament which was held at Chigwell School in glorious sunshine and it was the hosts who also shone.

The youngsters started strongly and won all five of their pool matches to finish top of the group.

Then St Aubyn’s were beaten in the last eight, before Brentwood were dispatched in the semi-finals to see them come head to head with Danbury-based school Elm Green.

The opening stages were tense, with both teams creating chances, but it was Chigwell who came through to win 3-0 and take the crown.

They will now travel to the National Finals which will be held at the FA’s National Football Centre at St George’s Park on Tuesday, May 3 next year.

Chigwell’s head of football, Creag Lawrence was delighted with the result. “The boys played some excellent, creating and attacking football over the course of the afternoon and won the tournament whilst playing the game in the right manner.”
