Barkingside scrap for a 2-1 victory against Essex Senior League strugglers Burnham Ramblers.

Side struggled to find their way past the visitors goalkeeper Joshua Strizovic, but goals from Michael Ogboin and Tony Cookey bagged the hosts three points at Cricklefield Stadium.

It was only 47 seconds in when the hosts took the lead when Tony Cookey slotted a past from inside the box to Michael Ogboin who got on the end of it at the back post to put his side up 1-0.

Neither side created much until the fifthtenth minute, when the visitors Bradley Morgan curled a shot wide from outside the box.

Five minutes later Burnham’s Joshua Strizovic kept the score within one as he pulled off two superb saves.

The keeper cleared the ball, but had it picked off by goal scorer Ogboin, who attempts to go round the keeper one on one, but was stopped in his tracks.

The ball thumbled clear and Ogboin threaded the ball across to Bradley Joseph who was also stopped from close range.

Burnham clawed their way back into the match and equalised from a long range free-kick when Bradley Smith managed to put his shot through the wall and into the bottom right of the net in the thirty fourth minute.

Barkingside’s Tony Cookery could have his side back in front on the stroke of half-time, but was denied from close range in the final minute by Strizovic.

The visitors came out strong in the second-half and had the first chance with a free kick just outside the box, which was blocked, with the ball falling to Webb whose shot stung the gloves of Will Hunt.

Barkingside extended their lead when left-back Ricardo Bailey made a superb run up the field going through three defenders and picking out striker Cookey with a cross who headed it home at the back post to make it 2-1 in the fifty ninth minute.

They could have made it 3-1 a free kick dropped to Euan Taylor-Reid at the back post, but he drilled a shot wide.

The hosts stepped up the pressure as Jason Fontaine made a great run down the left and picked out substitute Eden Nelson who put it wide.

The substitute was gifted another golden opportunity just minutes later after a terrible giveaway in the six yards fell to him, but he failed to convert.

Another chance fell to Fontaine who tried to take it around Strizovic but failed.

Barkingside kept pressuring the Burnham defence in the final ten minutes, but couldn’t manage to convert any of their chances.
