Side played out goalless draw with Essex Senior League rivals Leyton Athletic in extra preliminary round on Saturday

Barkingside boss Michael Walther admits his side are fortunate to still be in the FA Cup and hopes for an improved display in their extra preliminary round replay at Leyton Athletic on Wednesday.

The initial tie between the two Essex Senior League rivals ended in a goalless draw at Cricklefield Stadium on Saturday.

It was the third game in a row that Side failed to trouble the scorers, but equally the third game in a row where they kept a clean sheet.

Walther was understandably pleased with another shutout at the back, but remains troubled by his team’s work in the final third.

“It was another good display from us defensively, but it’s just not quite there in terms of attack at the minute,” said Walther.

“We played well in our first game of the season against Hullbridge Sports, but we weren’t great against Sporting Bengal United and Leyton deserved to beat us in the FA Cup on Saturday.

“Leyton probably played to the best of their ability with their starting XI, while we had a few players missing and we didn’t play was well as I know we can.

“We just have to use that as a positive, knowing that we have a lot more to offer.”
