Essex Senior League: Barkingside 0 Takeley 1

Barkingside manager Michael Walther suffered a 1-0 defeat to Takeley on his final game in charge of the club.

A 64th minute goal from Ben Smith ruined his farewell to the club in front of 75 fans at Cricklefield Stadium last night.

It was revealed ahead of the match that Walther would be leaving the club to join Bostik North side Basildon United with his replacement being Romford FC director of football Alex Goldstone until the end of the season.

Although, Side secured a win in the Peter Butcher Memorial Trophy on the weekend, the loss last night meant he leaves the club without winning a league fixture this season.

Goldstone was helping out in the dug out last night but will take charge fully on Saturday as they travel away to Southend Manor.

The club tweeted: “On a night where we have announced Alex Goldstone as our new interim manager, let’s continue to support the team.

“Despite losing tonight, we can build on a positive display.

“So let’s get behind the team, manager and club as we look to climb out of the drop-zone.”
