Barkingside manager Michael Walther wants to use their week off as a chance to build his squad back up.
Side have no games this week after picking up their first league win in four matches as they nicked a late 3-2 win against Sporting Bengal United at Mile End Stadium on Saturday.
Goals from Chid Onokwai, Tony Cookey and Michael Ogboin sealed the three points for Michael Walther’s men to help them climb up to 11th in the Essex Senior League table.
“It was a very tight game, we went in front a couple of times and made it difficult for ourselves by conceding a few soft goals, but it was very pleasing to come away with the three points.
“The big ask we have at the moment is I think footballing is changing as we had a lad who played 75 minutes of the match, it was 2-2, so we made a change and brought another forward on in Michael Ogboin who got the winner.
“The forward who come off Chid after the match asked to be released because he didn’t get to play the full 90 minutes.
“I don’t know what it is with player’s mentalities.”
Walther believes they need to build a bigger and cemented squad to be more consistent for the rest of the season.
“I think the reason we have been so up-and-down is because we have a core of a team, but we try bringing players in and then those players may not get regular first-team football right away and they want to leave.
“It’s hard for us to build a squad on top of our core of players because of that.
“I mean we only had one player left from last season and now that player Jason Fontaine has decided he wants to have a rest for a few weeks for other reasons so we now have no one left from last season.
“Players don’t want to wait for a chance or an opportunity anymore they want first-team and they may not leave, but they’ll be looking elsewhere to get it.
“We have to look at ways to try bring in a few young players now who are looking for a chance I think.”
Barkingside return to action with a trip to league leaders Takeley on Saturday, November 4.
