Redbridge stayed rooted to bottom of table

Reece Cosson’s last-gasp goal earned Barkingside victory at Burnham and a place in the Essex Senior League cup final last night.

But landlords Redbridge suffered more disappointment in Ryman Division One North, slumping to a 4-1 defeat against Wroxham at Oakside.

Side travelled to table-topping Burnham in high spirits, having extended their winning run to eight games with a 2-1 success at Great Wakering on Saturday.

The first leg of their semi-final tie with Burnham had ended in a 1-1 draw, but Richard Oxby put Matt Frew’s men ahead on aggregate after 20 minutes.

The much-travelled Neil Richmond levelled for the home side early in the second half to force extra time and the tie looked set to go to a penalty shoot-out when Cosson fired a 25-yard strike into the top corner.

Side will face bottom club Bowers in the final, which is set to take place on May 10.

Meanwhile, Redbridge took the lead against Wroxham thanks to another goal from young striker Jacob Cleaver.

But the visitors hit back through Jamie Spellar and Andrew Eastaugh to lead 2-1 at half time and second-half goals from Spellar and Ben Thompson left Motormen still one point adrift of neighbours Ilford at the bottom of the table.
