Ryman Div 1N: Barkingside 2 Maldon 4

Barkingside’s defensive frailties were exposed once again as they conceded four more at Oakside yesterday.

Beaten 6-0 on their own turf by Guernsey in the FA Trophy last weekend, the home side saw Matt Gulfer open the scoring just before the quarter-hour mark, having netted a consolation in the London Senior Cup defeat at Cray Valley in midweek.

But Glen Golby got the visitors back on terms just four minutes later and Jack Stevenson fired home from the penalty spot with just over half an hour gone.

Maldon’s joy was shortlived, though, as Gulfer grabbed his second less than two minutes later to square matters once more and give the hosts a boost going into the break.

Chris Bryan put Maldon ahead for a second time 10 minutes after the restart, however, and Side boss Matt Frew made a change midway through the second half when replacing Lorenzo Ramsay with Michael Agboola.

Maldon made sure of the points with six minutes remaining, though, as Stevenson claimed his second of the afternoon.

Barkingside: Clark, Salmon (Onireti 87), Mackin, Hayes (Olatundi 84), Crossley, Scott, Edmunds, Oxby, Suchley, Gulfer, Ramsay (Agboola 67).

Unused subs: Smith, Mulrooney.

Cheshunt 3 Redbridge 2

An own goal from Daniel Smith proved the difference as Motormen slipped to defeat against their mid-table rivals at Theobalds Lane.

The first half remained goalless until three minutes before the break when Cheshunt player-manager Omer Riza broke the deadlock.

And former Arsenal youngster Riza then saw Allen Bossman double his side’s lead four minutes after the restart.

Motormen hit back on the hour and drew level when Daniel Charge netted on 76 minutes.

But their joy was shortlived as Cheshunt regained the lead just a minute later when Smith turned the ball into his own net, which proved enough for the hosts to claim all three points.

Motormen return to action on Tuesday with a London Senior Cup tie at Cockfosters.

Their Essex Senior Cup third round tie against Brightlingsea Regent will take place at Oakside on October 29.

Redbridge: Driscoll, Worrell, Smith, Thomas, Good, Damali, A Thompson, Carlile, Charge, Tenkorang, Aiken. Subs: Bradbury, Thomas, L Thompson, Henty, Zaeem.
