Redbridge winner Riana calls for entries

Nominations for the 10th annual British Asian Sports Awards are now open and Redbridge’s Riana Devi Soobadoo, who was crowned last year’s British Asian Sports Awards Junior Sports Personality of the Year, is now calling for others to be nominated for this year.

The footballer scooped the award last February, along with Ilford-based taekwondo coach Sivakumar Renganathan, who was named Coach of the Year and his protégé Viroshan Gnanapandithan, who won Young Sports Personality of the Year.

Racing driver Adam Khan also put Redbridge on the sports-map when he was nominated for the Most Up and Coming Sports Personality of the Year.

“Winning the Sony Female Young Sports Personality of the Year Award was an incredible feeling and gave me great confidence and desire to continue playing football,” said Soobadoo.

“BASA gives you a platform to be celebrated – it made me feel like what I’m doing matters and that is why I would encourage other British Asians who often go unrecognised to change this and nominate themselves or people who deserve this accolade.”

Clubs, coaches, families and friends are being encouraged to visit www.basauk.tv and nominate those who deserve to be recognised for their hard-work in the following categories.

Junior Sports Personality of the Year (under-15), Young Sports Personality of the Year - Male (under-18), Most Up & Coming Sports Personality of the Year, Outstanding Achievement, Coach of the Year and BASA Sports Personality of the Year.
