Eastern Avenue got back to winning ways and in some style by thrashing Chelmsford City Reserves in the Essex County Women’s League.

Ashleigh Lewis-Shodeinde led the scoring with a hat-trick, but four of her team mates also got in on the act in the 11-1 rout.

It was the perfect response by Herons after they suffered defeat in a six-goal thriller to Hullbridge Sports the previous weekend.

Despite a dozen goals none were scored in the opening quarter of an hour as the top-of-the-table clash started with a predictably tense feel to it.

But Eastern Avenue did take the lead with 22 minutes played.

The hosts had put sustained pressure on Chelmsford and it paid off when a smart corner allowed Lewis-Shodeinde to open her tally.

Suddenly Herons were firmly into the swing of the match and six minutes later Charlotte Lynch doubled their advantage.

In the 35th minute Lynch made it 3-0 when the visitors again failed to defend a corner properly.

Eastern Avenue managed to add a fourth too as Katie Peers hammered into the roof of the net with 43 played.

And the home team were not finished there as they concluded a scintillating spell of football by scoring a fifth through Molly Rose.

Quick passing cut through the away midfield and Rose was on hand at the back post to apply the finishing touches and make it 5-0 at half time.

Herons picked up where they left off immediately after the break as Peers smashed in a sixth with only 50 minutes played as Chelmsford were struggling to cope.

Lewis-Shodeinde added another to her total when she got in behind the visiting defence and poked home, two minutes after Peers had found the net.

Avenue were going goal crazy now and barely had the game restarted when Hannah Warner cooly slotted home to make it 8-0 with nine minutes played.

After that three-goal blitz in the space of just four minutes Herons allowed themselves to relax.

Chelmsford continued to battle hard, but it was 9-0 to the hosts in the 70th minute when Tayla Hudson netted.

The away side were able to score a consolation shortly afterwards, but Lewis-Shodeinde completed her hat-trick to take the scoreline to double figures.

Warner concluded the scoring with a fierce drive minutes later to cap an excellent day for Herons.

Eastern Avenue: Hynes, B Davis, D Davis, Owens, Lowther, Hudson, Lynch, Peers, Warner, Rose, Lewis-Shodeinde.
