Ilford boss looking forward to midweek fixture and discusses recent lack of goals

Ilford manager Allan Fenn is looking for his team to get back to winning ways tomorrow (Wednesday) night against Greenhouse Sports in the Essex Senior League.

The Foxes haven’t picked up a victory in the division since beating Waltham Forest 3-0 back on February 13.

While they have only played three times since, losing once and drawing twice, he’s keen for them to pick up all three points against Sports.

It is a home clash for Greenhouse, but because of the state of the Coles Park pitch – it is taking place at Cricklefields Stadium.

“They are unpredictable, they lose a few games and then go and beat a team like Wadham Lodge,” said Fenn.

“Whoever you play, you need to turn up, be organised and work hard. If we do that then we should win the game, but I remember last year we lost three nil to them at home and it could have been seven.

“It goes to show if the mindset isn’t right then you can get turned over. As the weather looks good, hopefully we can get it on and we can pick up all three points.”

The Foxes will be boosted by the return of four key players for the clash with struggling Greenhouse.

Even though the north Londoners have only registered six wins all season, Ilford’s manager is taking nothing for granted.

Fenn added: “We have Carl Mullins and Danny Jones back so two good players and Elias Armah-Tackie and Ben Turner so two more bonuses.

“I think our away form is actually better than at home, but that is without looking properly into it. I just think we’ve saved some of our best performances for on the road this season.

“We are away tomorrow but at home, but for any game we are just always looking forward to it and getting out there.”

At the weekend, Fenn was left frustrated after Wale Odedoyin and Luke Thomas saw red in the 1-1 draw with London Bari.

Glen Warwick put Ilford ahead at the Old Spotted Dog, but they conceded a penalty late on and failed to pick up all three points.

The Foxes boss was unhappy with both red cards, but didn’t have any complains about the penalty decision.

He discussed their recent lack of success in front of goal, adding: “They have dried up, it is no coincidence that Wale hasn’t scored in the last three and we haven’t much either.

“I’m not saying we are reliant on him because we’ve shown all season we have goals from other areas, but we are missing chances at the moment.

“We are also not getting the rub of the green either because we are hitting the crossbar, having efforts cleared off the line or the goalkeeper against us is having a worldie.

“It does even itself out over the year though and if we weren’t creating chances and not looking tight at the back, I’d be worried.”
