Dagenham & Redbridge manager Daryl McMahon is eager for his ever-improving squad to continue building momentum down the final stretch of the season.

Daggers had an extremely slow start to the season where they were hit with injuries and a few Covid-19 outbreaks among the squad.

But they have finally found their feet in recent months putting in a string of good performances and now being rewarded with three consecutive victories.

It is now a trip across the capital to face London rivals Barnet at the Hive on Saturday as they look to make it four wins on the bounce.

“It’s really important, we’ve not really been able to get any momentum as every time we’ve started getting on a run, then we’ve had to stop especially just before and just after Christmas,” McMahon said.

“Hopefully now we can stay clear until the end of the season and continue improving.”

They have no midweek fixture this week, which allows them to solely focus on the Bees match and give players extra time to recover.

They will also hope they can try getting a few players back from injury including the likes of Myles Weston and George Saunders while Angelo Balanta came off at half-time in their 3-0 victory over King’s Lynn Town at the weekend as a precaution.

“It’s important to have some rest at this stage of the season as they’ve had so many games and it’s been a difficult season with managing training especially with everything that’s been going on," added McMahon.

“We’ve had a lot of games obviously in a short period of time, particularly some of the older players, they need an extra day of recovery and the younger players want to train as much as they can.”

Physio John Gowens also gave an update on some of the current injuries, by saying: “George took a bit of a blow to his shin when he scored the goal, and we had to take him off as he couldn’t really run on it.

“He’s getting better and better. It’s about making sure he’s ok, you get lots of that from players like George that come up from the lower leagues of the game, as their body has got to get used to full-time training and all games.”

Defender Luke Croll and winger Saunders could both be available for selection once again while Weston edges closer.
