The latest news from the Crostyx hockey club
Crostyx had a special visitor at their junior training sessions last Saturday, with Rio Olympics gold medallist Shona McCallin popping by.
McCallin, who was part of the successful Team GB women’s hockey team last summer, spent time with individual players, age groups and the coaches to pass on the benefit of her hockey career experience at club and international level.
The 25-year-old also showed off her gold medal and fielded questions from the youngsters, before presenting the Crostyx junior section with their awards back at their Woodford Wells club base.
“The junior section at the club is growing rapidly as we reap the benefit of the legacy of London 2012 and Rio engineered by England Hockey,” said Crostyx junior coordinator Jo Everett.
With McCallin celebrating her birthday on Thursday, the club gave her an early present by baking the Olympian a cake.
The club continues to run junior training throughout the summer.
