Woodford Wells took a big step towards Essex League Division One safety after a five-wicket victory at home to relegation rivals Orsett & Thurrock.
Jon Gaffney won the toss and put the visitors into bat first, but saw George Ellis (2-27) and Gareth James run riot at the top of the order.
Mark Pavitt hit an unbeaten 110 for Orsett, but James returned to claim (4-30) as they could only make 199-8 off 50 overs.
Wells lost Nabel Shaikh and George Styles early, but Tanveer Shah showed his class with a brilliant 105 off 112 balls.
He couldn’t stay there until the end, but Rehan Iqbal added 26 and James finished 36 not out to help the Monkhams Lane club win by five wickets in the 46th over.
Gaffney’s team are seventh in the table on 144 points and 22 above the bottom two after Hainault & Clayhall lost at home to Belhus.
After being put into bat first, only captain Irfan Shah (32), Sagar Joshi (52) and Martin Owers (26) could stick around for a significant period of time.
Hainault were eventually dismissed for 163 with 19 balls of their innings remaining at the Jack Carter Pavilion.
Belhus made light work of the chase and got home with six wickets in hand and more than 22 overs left.
