Woodford Green maintained their hold on second place behind Old Brentwoods in Shepherd Neame Essex League Division Three with a win at Stanford.

The home side chose to bat first after winning the toss but Usman Azhar (3-44) had early success with the new ball to reducee them to 40-3.

Amrit Ryatt and Mohammed Hasan also struck as the hosts sliipped to 79-7, before a 76-run partnership for the eighth wicket between Jack Carter (51) and captain Adam Knight.

Hussnain Kazmi broke the stand, before Ryatt (5-36) took the final two wickets to fall to dismiss Stanford for 182 in the 36th over.

And Kazmi (20) got Green off to a solid start with captain Hamaad Sayyed, before they slipped to 86-4.

Ashish Rai put on 59 with Azhar, hitting a six and fivee fours in his 38-ball 39.

And Azhar finished unbeaten on 26 from 33 deliveries, with all of his runs coming in boundaries after a six and five fours, as the visitors sealed a four-wicket win in the 38th over.

A ninth win of the season leaves Green 34 points behind the leaders with five games remaining.
