Woodford Green ended the first half of the Essex League Division Three season on a winning note at bottom club Epping.

Captain Hamaad Sayyed chose to bat first and put on 57 for the first wicket with Saad Ijaz (31).

Sayyed hit nine fours in his 52 off 52 balls to see Green reach 106-2, before a mini collapse left them 137-7.

Matthew Field (36 not out) and Ashish Rai (45 not out) shared an unbroken 80 for the eighth wicket to see them close on 217-7 and Epping were soon in trouble at 8-2 in reply.

Jack Cossey ended a third-wicket stand and Zubair Bhatti (3-41) got in on the act to reduce the hosts to 117-7.

And after Arslan Shahzad and Usmar Azhar (2-30) had further success, Cossey (2-26) dismissed opener Marc Meyer-Webb (52) to complete a 61-run triumph that leaves Green in sixth place at the midway mark.
