Johnson aware team will be pushed hard by Hornchurch

With Woodford Wells set to face Essex League Division One leaders Hornchurch on Saturday, captain Joe Johnson knows the team are in for a tough time.

Hornchurch are currently the only unbeaten side left across all four divisions and lead the second tier by 31 points.

Wells will travel to Harrow Lodge Park full of confidence following success against Hadleigh in their last match, but Johnson knows Hornchurch will be a sterner test.

“It will be hard for us and we will probably have to play somewhere close to our best and hope they have an off day,” he said.

“We’ve not been reliant on just a couple of batsmen which is good and those who haven’t got big scores recently might need to step up if we’re to win.

“They’re a good side who have been putting up some big scores recently. They’re a good all-round side so we know it will be tough for us on Saturday.”

While Johnson may be playing down his team’s chances, a win this weekend would do Wells’ hopes of a return to the Premier Division the power of good.
