Johnson rallies troops ahead of important fixtures

Joe Johnson insists Woodford Wells must embark on a winning run if they are serious about pushing for a return to the Essex League top flight.

A defeat to fellow Division One promotion hopefuls Shenfield in their last match saw Wells fall 40 points behind Southend in second place.

Saturday sees them welcome Hadleigh to Monkhams Lane and Johnson understands the importance of getting the right result from that match.

“If we are to have any chance of getting back into the promotion race, we probably have to win three or four of our next five matches,” said Johnson.

Their clash on the opening day of the season ended in a draw, but Johnson is now fully aware of what to expect this time around.

“They are a good bowling side who have a couple of batsmen that can do damage too,” he added.

“If we can post a good total and then get rid of their good batsmen quickly, we should do fine.”

Wells hope to be able to recall Will Rogers and Rishabh Shah, who both missed the Shenfield loss.
