Wanstead's women celebrate their success

Wanstead Cricket Club’s women were crowned champions of the London Sixes for a third time after some fine displays earlier this week.

The female Herons held Southall to 42 runs in their first match and chased their target down in four overs, then made 42-1 against Harrow in their second group game, before holding their rivals to 38-4 in reply.

Wanstead met Harrow again in the final and restricted the north London club to 41-3, before clinching victory in 4.3 overs.

Captain Saba Nasim and Dipti Puthawala shared the player of the day award, having eased to a big win over East Herts in their latest North London Women’s League match at Nutter Lane.

Puthawala hit an unbeaten 145 and saw opening partner Neha Mahatma finish on 127 not out as they shared an unbroken 295-run stand in 40 overs.

Shellshocked East Herts were then dismissed for 59 in 36 overs as the defending champions completed a big win.

Wanstead, who also won the title in 2009, 2011 and 2012, are due to visit Hampstead on Sunday (1pm) and are holding a women’s softball cricket festival at their club on Thursday August 24.
