Herons lost by five wickets against Billericay last time out

Wanstead & Snaresbrook will bid to get their Shepherd Neame Essex League Premier Division title challenge on track when they welcome Shenfield on Saturday.

The Herons slipped from top spot last weekend following a five-wicket defeat at Billericay, with Hornchurch taking over at the summit.

Against Billericay, the Overton Drive outfit won the toss and skipper Joe Ellis-Grewal elected to bat.

However, Wanstead were all out for just 126 inside 35 overs even with Zain Shahzad finishing unbeaten on a run-a-ball 23.

Despite two wickets apiece for Shahzad (2-46) and Mohammed Fayyaz Khan (2-17), Billericay successfully completed their chase inside 31 overs.

The defeat saw the Herons lose their place at the summit, with the Overton Drive outfit now trailing new leaders Hornchurch by two points.

With seven games still to go in the season, however, there is plenty of cricket still to go and Wanstead could end this weekend back on top of the table.

However, that does mainly rely on them earning a swift return to winning ways by beating Shenfield.
