Wanstead saw their hopes of National T20 success ended by Cannock & Rugeley Hawks on Sunday.

The Herons headed to the Midlands for the regional final on the back of a big win over Colchester in the Essex League on Saturday.

And they produced a good display in the field to hold the home side to 117-9 from their 20 overs, with Essex staffer Kishen Velani the pick of the bowling once again.

Velani had taken six wickets a day earlier and took 3-13 from his four overs at Cannock, as Jack Lord (2-13) also nabbed a brace.

But Wanstead lost Zain Shahzad to a first-ball duck in reply and Hassan Chowdhury and Velani also fell cheaply.

Arfan Akram hit six fours in his run-a-ball 44, with Tom Cummins adding a six and two fours in his 23 from 19 deliveries.

Captain Joe Ellis-Grewal also fell to a first-ball duck, though, and Aron Nijjar and Jonathan Das were left as the unbeaten batsmen as they closed on 115-7 to suffer a two-run defeat.
