Aron Nijjar recorded a career best with the bat as Essex seconds maintained control on day two of their County Championship clash with their Glamorgan counterparts at Bishops’ Stortford.
The Eagles resumed at the start of play on 135-5, 70 runs behind the Welsh side who had been bowled out on day one of the contest.
But the Wanstead man came in with Essex seven wickets down, though he struck up a good partnership with Chris Pepper to help take the hosts past Glamorgan’s total.
The pair put on over 100 for the seventh wicket, with Nijjar recording a career-best of 63 with the bat to do his chances of a senior call-up the power of good.
Essex were eventually dismissed 285 midway through the afternoon with a lead of 80, giving them enough time to take a few Welsh wickets.
Brentwood’s Tom Moore continued the charge with the ball, taking two wickets for six runs as Essex restricted the visitors to 73-4 shortly before 4.30pm.
Sadly that was as good as it would get for the hosts before the end of play as Glamorgan rallied to reach 159-4 by the close of play, giving them a lead of 79.
