County Cricket Ground outfit extend Aaron Beard’s deal until 2018, but Tom Moore set to leave at the end of the season

Varun Chopra has joined Essex on loan from Warwickshire ahead of the final two County Championship Division Two matches of the 2016 season.

The former Ilford batsman signed a three-year contract with the Eagles in August, but is now available to face Glamorgan and Kent later this month.

Born in Barking, the 29-year-old is excited about being part of a potentially successful end to the campaign.

“It was always a place I wished to come back to at some stage during my career,” Chopra told the official Essex website.

“Hopefully by using my Division One experience I can help the boys over the line and back into the top flight.”

Essex’s head coach Chris Silverwood added: “We are really pleased to welcome Varun into the squad earlier than expected.

“The squad is fully focused on getting over the line and achieving promotion so adding someone of Varun’s quality and experience to the squad gives us further options with our batting.”

A statement by Essex read: “The club would like to thank Warwickshire for allowing Varun to join up with his new colleagues.”

It was also revealed earlier today that young fast bowler Aaron Beard has agreed a one-year contract extension with the club.

The England under-19 international will remain with Essex until the end of the 2018 season after putting pen to paper.

Beard has played three first class matches this season and made his debut when Sri Lanka visited the County Cricket Ground.

The fast bowler produced an astonishing spell to finish with 4-62 and is looking forward to improving even more.

“I’m really grateful for the opportunity to continue to develop my game with such a great club. Hopefully when my chance comes I will be able to impress and make the step up,” said Beard.

Silverwood added: “Aaron has worked incredibly hard to be at the level he is at such a young age.

“Against Sri Lanka he showed what an exciting talent he is and what huge potential he has.”

Meanwhile it has been confirmed Tom Moore, of Hornchurch, will leave Essex when his contract expires at the end of the current campaign
