South Woodford came up short in a high-scoring Shepherd Neame Essex League Division Two clash at Horndon.

The home side chose to bat first after winning the toss and amassed 303 from their 50 overs, following contributions from most of their top order.

Saihaj Jaspal (3-54) and Indika Wickramaratne (3-57) were the pick of the South Woodford bowling, with Viraj Khagram (2-46) nabbing a brace.

But the visitors lost Henry Blackwell, Kasey Harris and Kabir Rashid cheaply in reply to find themselves 44-3.

Bradley Copper held firm with support from Michael Browne (42) in a 118-run stand for the fourth wicket and reached 108 from 112 balls, having hit a six and 16 fours, before being run out.

Jaspal added a six and three fours in his 50 from 53 balls and put on 95 with Jamie Carroll, who struck two sixes and three fours in his 41 from 43 deliveries.

But Carroll’s departure left the visitors 273-7 and they eventually closed on 294-8.
