Rivals to meet in T20 derby

Anand Patel will be looking for South Woodford to progress in the Dukes Essex T20 cup when they host local rivals Wanstead in the knockout stage tonight (Monday).

Stand-in skipper Patel, who has held the ship steady in the absence of injured Harry Shirt, is taking the format as seriously as the Essex Premier League campaign, saying: “We definitely want to do well in every competition we’ve had some success in 20/20 over the last four or five years, so we won’t be taking it lightly.”

Patel also expects the reigning league champions to be strong and is looking forward to a good contest, adding: “It looks like we’re going to have great weather for it and Wanstead are always very strong.

“It’s a game to look forward too and a format where people can open up and play their cricket which should make it a good game.”

Despite being the home side, Patel believes it will aid them, explaining: “I don’t really think that there is much to home advantage in 20/20 cricket. “Because of the nature of it, all you really need is a couple of guys to have a good game and it can change a game.”

Tonight’s action at Highfield Road gets underway at 6pm.
