Oakfield Parkonians dug in to deny Fives & Heronians victory in their Shepherd Neame Essex League Division Two derby, as Loughton beat Old Southendian to move to the brink of the title.

Parks put the home side into bat at The Paddock, but saw them pile up 310-6 declared as Lakshan Rodrigo (107) and captain Jake Poulter (92) shone with the bat.

Charles Allen (53) also made a good start for Fives, as Selvam Ramasamy (3-88) and Aman Ali (2-88) had most success with the ball for Parks.

But Fives had to settle for 12 bonus points as the visitors closed on 160-9 from 46 overs in reply, allowing Loughton to move 32 points clear at the summit with two games remaining.

Bilal Butt (3-48) was the Loughton bowling hero as the home side made 203-7, with Jordan Ramsden (2-20) nabbing a brace.

Bilaal Anwar (90) led the Loughton run chase, with Osman Choudhry (25), Umar Choudhry (31 not out) and Butt (35 not out) also chipping in to seal a seven-wicket win in the 35th over.
