Valentines Park side lost by four runs on Saturday

Ilford skipper Theeban Tavarasa says he is proud of his team despite losing by four runs at Shenfield in the Shepherd Neame Essex League Premier Division.

The Valentines Park outfit lost the toss and were put into the field at Chelmsford Road, but bowled their hosts out for 240 as Shane Snater finished with figures of 3-55.

Though opener Mohammad Ahktar hit 111 off just 103 balls in reply, Ilford came up just short in their quest for a win as they closed on 236-9.

It was a fourth straight league defeat for the Valentines Park side, but Tavarasa says he was content with the team’s performance in defeat.

“It was a better performance from us compared to the previous week and it was probably our best batting display in our last four games,” he said.

“Losing any game hurts, but there are plenty of positives for us to take from the game.

“We were without some experienced players, like Ashar Zaidi, so we can be proud of the way we played.

“We gave it our all, but the important thing now is that we again learn from a defeat.”
