Ilford impress in Southend success

Ilford claimed a comfortable 71-run win at Southend in their latest Essex League Premier Division outing.

Put into bat by the home side, they saw Saurav Prabhakar (24) put on 70 with Nishad Deven Gabhawala, who added another 150 with Gurdeep Kandola.

The impressive Gabhawala hit a six and 16 fours in his 135 from just 105 balls, with Mohammad Ahktar (29) also chipping in, and Kandola made 78 from 102 deliveries, with six fours, as the visitors closed on a challenging score of 323-5.

Hussnain Kazmi struck the first blow with the ball in Southend’s reply, with Kalpesh Chandracant also having some success, before Tom Phillippe (61) and Harry Ridgewell (50) put on 93 for the third wicket.

Ahktar (3-46) made the breakthrough and had good support from Haaris Ayub (2-37), before Kazmi (3-51) came back into the attack to claim two more wickets in the space of three balls.

Sam Rowe finished unbeaten on 50 from 54 balls as Southend closed on 252-9.
