Valentines Park outfit beaten by 48 runs at home to Hadleigh & Thundersley on Saturday

Ilford skipper Theeban Tavarasa admits he was left puzzled after seeing his team go down by 48 runs at home to Hadleigh & Thundersley in the Shepherd Neame Essex League Premier Division.

The Valentines Park outfit had made a good start after electing to field and had their visitors 80-5 at one stage in their innings.

However, Hadleigh lost no further wickets and were able to end their innings on 193-5.

Ilford suffered a terrible start in reply as openers Akash Raji, who went for a duck, and Mohammad Ahktar, who scored just one, fell cheaply.

The Valentines Park outfit never really recovered and were dismissed for 145 inside 46 overs.

It was a fifth straight loss for Ilford, and captain Tavarasa says his team have found the going difficult of late.

“It’s been a tough time for us over the past few weeks,” admitted Tavarasa.

“We would have taken 194 to win at the start of the game, but we bowled well early on and we could have got them out for an even lower score.

“Whatever it was on Saturday, we just couldn’t get towards the finish line and it’s one of those when you scratch your head afterwards, wondering how you lost.”
