It was a bad day for local clubs as only one out of three in action in the Essex Premier Division was victorious.

Ilford won against Shenfield, but Wanstead and South Woodford were beaten on a rain-hit Saturday.

Ilford won a thrilling encounter at Shenfield by five runs after bowling the hosts out for 275 having scored 280-6.

Gurdeep Kandola led the way with the bat hitting an unbeaten 104 and received able support from Nigel Jacobs (45) and Aron Nijjar (40).

Shenfield made an excellent start in reply but three wickets apiece from Theeban Tavarasa (3-77) and Irfan Sahar (3-46) helped Ilford secure victory.

Wanstead were emphatically beaten by 140 runs against Chingford, despite the best efforts of Usman Sahar and Joe Ellis-Grewal.

Sahar returned 5-68 from 20 overs while Ellis-Grewal picked up 4-53 from 17.3 as Chingford were bowled out for 241 runs.

Wanstead lost wickets regularly, with captain Arfan Akram (38) the only batsman to score over 20 as they were bowled out for 101 in 46.1 overs.

South Woodford endured a difficult day against Chelmsford as they were skittled out for 121 after deciding to bat first.

They couldn’t restrict the visitors either who chased down their total for the loss of just five wickets.

Hainault & Clayhall lost out to Ardleigh Green in Division One by just 12 runs in another tight match.

Hainault bowled out Green for 189, with Bilal Makodia (4-33) producing their best figures, but they couldn’t achieve a win.

Zoheb Sharif (37) and Mousshin Ismail (35) got Hainault off to a good start but they lost wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for 177.

Woodford Wells also suffered defeat to Hadleigh by six wickets after they were bowled out for 193, with Ed Buxton (38) top scoring.

Wells made an excellent start with the ball after reducing Hadleigh to 12-3 but they were only able to find one more breakthrough as the hosts cruised to victory hitting 194-4.

In Division Two Fives & Heronians were unable to chase 322 off 45 overs in a rain-affected match with Orsett.

Orsett amassed 332 with the bat and after rain had reduced Fives’ target they were bowled out for 199, despite 83 from opener Gary Edwards.

Oakfield Parkonians did achieve a win in Division Three, though, after smashing 429-6 off 49 overs against Epping.

Unsurprisingly the hosts struggled in their reply and ended on 292-9 off 49 overs.
