Valentines Park outfit were beaten by 125 runs on Saturday

Ilford captain Theeban Tavarasa insists his team are still in a good position despite losing two of their last three matches in the Shepherd Neame Essex League Premier Division.

The Valentines Park outfit suffered a 125-run defeat away to Chelmsford in their latest league outing at the weekend.

After losing the toss, Ilford were put into the field, but were able to restrict their hosts to 220-8 after Haaris Ayub took 4-62.

However, the Valentines Park outfit never got going in reply and were all out for 95 with Ayub’s 19 the top score.

The defeat leaves Ilford fifth in the table, but only 16 points behind leaders Wanstead & Snaresbrook which Tavarasa believes marks a solid opening to the new term.

“We’re eight games into the season with 115 points on the board, so we’re in a good place,” said the skipper.

“Everything has gone OK for us so far, but it’s about how we go on from this position in the coming weeks.”
